Engagement rate calculator
Engagement rate is average interactions per post divided by audience size, as a percentage. By followers it measures how much of your claimed audience responds; by reach it measures how well content performs with the people who actually saw it. Both are useful; they answer different questions.
How this works
Engagement rate v1 = (average likes + average comments) / followers × 100, averaged over the most recent posts available at sync time.
By-reach variant: (average likes + average comments) ÷ average reach × 100. Reach comes from your own analytics; platforms don't expose it publicly.
What counts as a good engagement rate?
It depends on platform, niche and audience size — smaller audiences reliably run higher rates, so comparing a 5k account to a 500k account is meaningless. The bands in the tool (1% / 3% / 6%) are orientation only, not a measured benchmark of any dataset, and should be treated as a starting point for your own comparison within a niche and tier.
FAQ
Should saves and shares be included?
If you have them (your own analytics), yes — they signal stronger intent than likes. This public formula uses likes + comments because those are the interactions visible without account access, which keeps the number comparable across creators.
Why is my by-reach rate much higher than by-followers?
Normal — reach per post is usually a fraction of follower count. A large gap (say reach under 20% of followers) is worth investigating: it can mean an inactive audience or declining distribution.
