Editorial Policy

Every figure published here is either attributed to a named public source or labelled as the author’s own experience. We publish no invented averages, no fabricated income reports, and no paid coverage. Corrections are logged with what was wrong and when it was fixed.

How numbers are sourced

Rates, salaries, tool prices and revenue figures are the reason to read a site like this, so they carry the strictest rule.

  • Named public source. A survey, a published rate card, a platform’s own pricing page, a filing. Linked so you can check it, with the date it was checked.
  • The author’s own experience. Labelled explicitly as one person’s data — “what I charged”, not “the going rate”. One person is an anecdote and the writing says so.
  • Nothing else. If a figure cannot be sourced either way, it does not get published. “Most freelancers charge around…” with nothing behind it is the single most common falsehood in this category.

Tool pricing is stamped with a “prices checked” date, because it dates faster than anything else on a page.

When advice does not apply

Most business advice is context-dependent. Retainers beat hourly for most people, but not for someone in their first month with no savings. Raising rates works, but not mid-project without a variation clause.

Where a piece of advice has a condition attached, it gets a caveat box rather than a footnote. The alternative is a reader following guidance written for a situation that is not theirs, which is how this genre does actual damage.

Money and tax content is general information, not tax, legal or financial advice. Jurisdiction changes almost everything in that pillar.

Corrections

  1. The figure is re-checked against its original source.
  2. The page is corrected and its updated date changes.
  3. A note records what was wrong and what it now says.
  4. Where the error changed the conclusion, that is stated rather than buried.

Prices going out of date is a re-check, not a correction. A correction is when we were wrong.

Affiliate disclosure

If affiliate links are used, they will be disclosed on the page carrying them and here. The commitment that matters more: commission does not decide which tool gets recommended. Where the free tier is the right answer, that is the answer, and where a tool we could earn from is worse than one we cannot, the writing says so.

No coverage is for sale. No mention, review, ranking or placement can be bought.

AI use

Editorial judgement, the numbers, and the opinions are human decisions. Where automated tools assist with drafting or checking, output is verified against primary sources under the same rules as anything else, and no tool is permitted to originate a factual figure.

Bylines

Every post carries a real byline with a real background and a working author archive. Personas presented as real people are not used. Where a piece draws on someone else’s numbers, they are credited by name.
